I (Andrea) am a meal skipper. (Let the admonishing begin!) I consider a cup of coffee in the morning to be a meal. And that is a bad habit. I should eat. I need to eat. I have to eat.
Look, we’re all smart here. We all know that we need to eat nutritious food to keep us going throughout our day, but how many of us do it? Quite frankly, I’m extra guilty of it. I work at home. I have my whole kitchen at my disposal so there isn’t any excuse for my skipping of meals. I should be eating the best meals of all.
But I’m not.
I’m so busy...no, wait. I feel so busy that I get started working as soon as I get my son to school and don’t think about food. I make some coffee or tea, work and work and work, and then it’s 1:30pm and I just think, well, I’ll grab a snack now because I don’t want a full meal because then I won’t eat dinner. And then maybe that snack is a handful of chips and a chunk of cheese. Yeah, great stuff.
If you’re doing this, you need to stop. And I do, also. We need nutrition and energy and need to care enough about ourselves to take the time to have something good. So here’s what I do now. I make a shake. Yes, everyone is always talking about shakes, but really, it’s a great thing to do. It takes about a minute, and I can still keep working while having something nutritious and filling for a meal.
Here’s my Go To Shake, but I like to change it up sometimes. I don’t have any exact measurements, sorry. I just sort of eyeball everything but these are a best guess. You can mix it up to suit your own tastes.
Blend that all up and it’s a quick, healthy and filling meal to have when you’re feeling rushed and don’t feel like you have time to sit down for a real meal. I don’t recommend shakes all the time. Please, take the time and eat a real meal with utensils and munching and crunching. But this helps keep you energized in a pinch.
So, go eat, dammit!
Frankie and Andrea take turns sharing stories. Just good talk over a cup of coffee.
