Do you have bad habits? I (Andrea) do. Lots of them. And I gave each of them to myself. I was very thoughtless at the time I was giving them. I didn’t even wrap them up. I just tossed them over, one by one, until they were in a huge pile upon me. That’s before Frankie and I started talking about how #healthmatters when you work from home.
This year, I’m giving myself a new gift - 12 of them, actually, and I’m wrapping them up in some expensive wrapping paper and I’m even putting huge, flowery bows on top. To: Andrea. From: Andrea - you deserve this!
It’s so easy to give yourself bad habits. Want to know some of mine? I sit on the couch too much. I don’t step away from the computer as much as I need to. I spend too much time on my iPad. I don’t exercise as much. I skip meals. I’m physically lazier because I have a work at home job. I could go on and on, but this isn’t a confessional.
Why don’t we give ourselves good habits? Why do we treat ourselves so poorly? Aren’t we worth it? Of course we are, but we tend to let so many outside influences mold how we live our lives, that we forget our own worth. No more!
You are worth a good habit. Thousands of them, actually. Millions. But habits (like the routines I spoke of yesterday) just don’t happen overnight. A lot of people say that it takes 30 days to make something a habit. So for me that means I can make twelve new habits this year. Twelve gifts to give to myself, because I’m worth it.
For January, my good habit is this: I will always have a ton of fresh veggies prepped and ready so that anyone in the house can have a salad whenever he or she wants. It seems like an odd habit, but when you have a salad bar ready to go in your fridge, you tend to eat more salad. And when you eat more salad, you’re eating a little healthier than you were when you didn’t have a salad bar ready to go. For ten days now, my salad bar has been ready to go. I have a beautiful bowl filled with greens, and a platter filled with assorted raw veggies and for the past nine days, we have eaten salad every single day.
I don’t know what the other eleven good habits are that I’ll be giving to myself, but I know they’re going to be spectacular, and they’re going to make me feel great, because I’m worth it and my #healthmatters. I’ll be sure to share them with you each month.
What good habit are you going to give yourself this year? What do you deserve?
Frankie and Andrea take turns sharing stories. Just good talk over a cup of coffee.
