Next week is Thanksgiving. (Already??!?!?!) I, Andrea, just wanted to tell you to stay home. Really. Enjoy the food. Enjoy the family. Enjoy your spouse, or your parents, or your kids, or weird old Uncle Albert. Play some games. Take a nap on the couch.
The Black Friday ads are abounding now, and many people are gearing up to head to stores just as soon as they’ve gotten their fill of turkey. Stop. Don’t go. Wait it out.
Now, I’m not going to tell you that you’re going to get better sales if you wait. (I think I’ve read that before, but that’s not why I’m telling you to wait.) Years ago I used to go out on Black Friday. I loved it. I would get up at 4am and enjoy the cold, quiet mornings on the road, all by myself. Now - no thanks.
Look. Why are you working from home? Or, why are you trying to start working from home? Because those awful commutes take time away from your family. Because when you work from home you can be more involved in your home, and your family, and yourself. You’re working hard to achieve a work at home life so you can spend more time with your family, and now, when you finally have the time to spend with them - you leave. To shop. That doesn’t make sense.
There is nothing that any store out there is giving away that is more important than spending time playing a board game with your kids, or snuggling up on the couch with family to watch some holiday movies (or football!). Stores and discounts and knick knacks will always be around, but we won’t always have together time with family.
Frankie and Andrea take turns sharing stories. Just good talk over a cup of coffee.
