It's no secret that the holiday season is stressful for lots of people. Whether you're stressed because of financial pressures, family problems, sickness or any other number of things, that stress seems tenfold during the holiday season. So, what do you do???
I (Frankie) clean. I know that's going to sound crazy to a lot of you, but it is one of the few things that really relieves my anxiety at this time, or anytime of year. Sure, my walk/jogs are great and some days they are the only thing that keeps me sane, but what if I get super anxious and I can't go for a jog? What then? I clean. I'll explain.
When my anxiety starts to spiral out of control it's ususally because there are things happening that I don't like that are completely out of my control. I can't stand feeling out of control, hence the anxiety. But there is one thing I can control...cleaning. I'll just start sweeping, scrubbing baseboards, washing windows or floors, dusting, or whatever I can think of that will take my mind off whatever is going on and help me feel like I've at least got control over one thing in my life.
I'm not saying when you get stressed you have to clean. What I am saying is that when that anxiety starts to threaten to take over, do something. Find something that will help you get your mind under control and beat back that anxiety. Clean, jog, play a game, read, meditate, or go outside and scream at the top of your lungs. It doesn't matter if people think you're strange. You know that you are just keeping a good, firm grip on your sanity so that everyone can have a happy holiday season :)
