“You’ve got to get up every morning with determination if you’re going to go to bed with satisfaction.”
– George Lorimer
Success is a funny thing. Sometimes I (Andrea) don’t know when I’ve been successful until well afterward. Yesterday I was digging through some old (OLD!) files and came across poetry I had written for a college class. After thumbing through it and reading my professor’s remarks, I realized that I had achieved some success with my writing. I never thought about it as success. Just a passing grade, really, and one class closer to graduation.
Success is different now, especially from a work at home perspective. In the beginning, success was gaining a new client. Success was completing a project and getting paid for it. On time! Then success was being able to pay bills and cover expenses. All very tangible things.
As Frankie and I move forward in our business, we really have changed how we view success. Sure, we joke about meeting up in New York to be on Good Morning America or some talk show. But now our successes are more personal, based upon the personal goals we have for CTC. What I mean is this. In the past - in the beginning of things - success was all about what we got. A client, a paycheck. But today, success is different.
Today, success is about what we achieve. We celebrate the fact that on Monday morning we’ve gotten all our blogs written for the week. Success! We celebrate the fact that we catch each other online on Skype over the weekend, both thinking/working/doing something for Coffee Talk. Success! We celebrate the fact that someone likes our Facebook page, or posts a comment on the blog, or sends us an email. Super success!
Your success is going to be measured in different ways throughout your life. You may not recognize it immediately, but it’s there, happening for you. Enjoy each part of it and appreciate that it will all come as long as you continue to strive for it.
Frankie and Andrea take turns sharing stories. Just good talk over a cup of coffee.
